Abstract: Deformation of solid bodies under gravitation forces is of frequent occurrence and a subject matter of Mechanics. Usually calculations are performed for sphere-shaped solid bodies of a constant densit y. But if a sphere is compressed whilst its mass remains constant, a density is to increase in the process of deformation. Under these circumstances buckling and even collapse of a sphere are found to occur. Rotation of sphere-shaped solid bodies is also taken into consideration. Abstract: The present work studies the performance of multi-layer coated tool in machining of hardened steel (AISI 4340 steel) under high speed turning. The influence of cutting parameters (speed, feed, and dep th of cut) on cutting forces and surface finish has been analyzed.L27 OA based Taguchi design was used to study cutting force (Fx, Fy and Fz) and surface finish (SR) of turning on AISI 4340 hardened steel work-piece. Cutting force and SR are mostly affected by speed and feed. Taguchi quality loss function was adopted to optimize the turning process with multiple performance characteristics. Abstract: This paper aims to design and simulate a pulse width modulating signal based on sliding mode controller for a DC-DC converter with fuzzy inference operating in continuous conduction mode. Solar panel with DC-DC converter fed to a DC load is controlled by the sliding mode controller. The sliding mode controller uses a sliding surface for generating the necessary pulses for the converter inference by fuzzy logic, which regulates the voltage at the load terminal. The fuzzy inference system with sliding mode controller used in this paper provides steady state condition under non-linear case of the system. Abstract: In this study, an attempt has been made to evaluate the performance of multilayer coated carbide inserts during dry turning of hardened AISI 4340 steel (47 HRC). The effect of machining parameters (de pth of cut, feed and cutting speed) on surface roughness parameters (Ra and Rz) were investigated by applying ANOVA. The experiments were planned basedon Taguchi’s L27orthogonal array. Results showed that surface roughness parameters (Ra and Rz) are mainly influenced by feed and cutting speed, whereas depth of cut exhibits minimum influence on surface roughness (Rz) and neglegible influence in case of surface roughness (Ra). The experimental data were further anlyzed to predict the optimal range of surface roughness parameters (Ra and Rz). Download PDF

Abstract: The PV inverter includes either a line frequency or a high frequency transformer between the inverter and grid. The transformer provides galvanic isolation between the grid and the PV panels. In order to increase the efficiency, to reduce the size and cost, the effective solution is to remove the isolation transformer. In this proposed system the voltage is maintained constant at any instant. It leads to appearance of common mode (CM) ground leakage current due to parasitic capacitance between the PV panels and the ground. The common mode current reduces the efficiency of power conversion stage, affects the quality of grid current, deteriorate the electric magnetic compatibility and give rise to the safety threats. In order to eliminate the common mode leakage current in transformer less PV system. By connecting the grid neutral line directly to the negative pole of the DC bus, the stray capacitance between the PV panels and the ground is bypassed. The CM ground leakage current can be suppressed completely. Virtual DC bus is created to provide the negative voltage level for the negative AC grid current generation. The virtual DC bus is realized with the switched capacitor technology that uses less number of elements. Therefore, the power electronic cost can be reduced. This topology can be modulated with the unipolar SPWM to reduce the output current ripple. A smaller filter inductor can be used to reduce the size and magnetic losses. The simulation result of the proposed topology using MATLAB/SIMULINK is presented.Download PDF

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to study the effect of speed, feed and depth of cut on Material Removal Rate(MRR) and cutting force (F c) in turning mild steel using high speed steel cutting tool. Experi ments were conducted on a centre lathe and the influence of cutting parameters was studied using analysis of variance (ANOVA) based on adjusted approach. Based on the main effects plots obtained through full factorial design use Design expert Software, optimum level for surface roughness and cutting force were chosen from the three levels of cutting parameters considered. Linear regression equation of cutting force has revealed that speed, feed, and depth of cut significantly influenced the variance. In case of material removal rate, the influencing factors were found to be feed and the interaction of speed and feed. As turning of mild steel using HSS is one among the major machining operations in manufacturing industry, the revelation made in this research would significantly contribute to the cutting parameters.Download PDF
