Abstract: A diesel engine was fuelled with diesel and karanja biodiesel blends and its performance and emission characteristics studied. The parameters such as specific fuel consumption (SFC), brake thermal ef ficiency (BTE) and exhaust emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO),and oxides of nitrogen(NOx) were measured and compared with diesel fuel. With 100% karanja (Pongamia pinnata) biodiesel, the specific fuel consumption was 340, 304 and 287 g/kWh at 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5kW load conditions while for diesel it is found that 318,287 and 260 g/kWh at 1.5.2.0 and 2.5kW load condition The per cent increase in brake thermal efficiency of engine with karanja biodiesel blends (B15 to B60) ranged from 0.1.1 to 2.3% higher than diesel fuel. . The CO2emission from 100 %biodiesel was slightly higher than that of diesel. Abstract: In this study, artificial neural networks (ANNs) model has been developed to analyse effect on compressor work of the other variables like suction pressure, delivery pressure, suction temperature & d elivery temperature. In developed ANN model network 2,network type feed forward back propagation with training function TRAINLM, adaptation learning function LEARNGDM and with other parameter network has been successfully trained to analyse performance analysis of simple vapor compression refrigeration system using refrigerant R134a, which does not damage ozone layer. Experimentation was conducted to investigate effect of suction pressure and other variables like suction temperature to compressor, delivery pressure, outlet temperature to compressor and compressor work per kg of refrigerant. As we know conventional analytical approach involves more complicated formula & assumptions ,whereas experimental studies are tedious ,so in this paper an attempt has been made to train (ANNs) for suction pressure range(156kPa-425kPa), delivery pressure range(1101kPa-1769kPa) suction temperature range(10 0C - 34 0C) ,outlet temperature from compressor range(68 0C - 88 0C)as input to artificial neural networks (ANNs) model network2and it has been successfully trained for output as compressor work. Experimental output and output predicted from network2 resembles close to each other withR2=0.9999858,RMSE = 0.128kJ/kg, COV=0.379%& ANN with Network type -feed- forward back prop, training function- TRAINLM, adaptation learning function –LEARNGDM, with 8 No of neuron can be successfully applied in the field of performance analysis of simple vapor compression refrigeration (VCR) system. Abstract: Treatment and potability are essential properties of water to be considered in the design and construction of a water treatment plant model. The quest for treating raw water is important in areas fac ing acute shortage of potable water. This study examined how raw water can be treated via the use of a treatment plant model. Glass, silicon sealant, diamond glass cutter, Measuring Tape, Abro2000(USA brand) stoppers, glass drilling machine, pipe and hose, aggregates and glass cleaner fluid were used in the construction of the water treatment plant model. The raw water samples were also collected from a moving stream near sewage plant at the Polytechnic Ibadan Oyo state, which was then, treated using the water Treatment plant model. The raw and treated water were characterized by carrying out laboratory analysis on the samples, the analysis were carried out at Kappa Laboratories Bodija Oyo state, Nigeria. The physical (Colour), chemical (COD, Total dissolved solid and Calcium Hardness) and microbiological (Coliform) Properties of the water samples were then tested to determine the potability of the water samples based on the model designed. Raw and treated water samples’ laboratory results were compared with the World Health Organization (WHO) standard to ascertain if the treated water is suitable for both Industrial and Domestic consumption and the results were clearly stated as follows; Untreated/ Treated ; Colour (3.3hazen units)/(0.5hazen units), COD (36.6 mg/L)/(2.8mg/L), Total Dissolved solid (622mg/L)/(165mg/L), Calcium hardness (66mg/L)/ (58), Coliform (2.2x102 CFUc/ml)/(Nil). The water treatment plant model harnessed the potability properties of the raw water thereby producing water suitable for human consumption. The process utilizes unit conversion for tracing the maximum power point and interlinking the photo voltaic array to the grid.
